In 2020, there is every reason to celebrate at HOLZ automation \u2013 as the former small toolmaking business looks back on half a century of company history. Today, we are an internationally successful specialist for automation with 75 employees \u2013 but when our family business was founded in 1970, things looked completely different \u2013 at the time, our founder Manfred Holz worked alone in the small garage of his newly built family home… This makes it clear that a lot has happened over the last 50 years! That is why, for our anniversary, we would like to pause and look back at the developments that ultimately made us what we are today: a Swabian family business with forward-thinkers and tinkerers who are passionate about what they do. <\/p>\n<\/div>

For seven years, “Manfred Holz Werkzeugbau” operated from the Holz family garage in Maubach and had already established a reputation as a particularly competent partner during that time. Major customers such as Mahle, Bosch, and Stihl already trusted Holz back then. As a result, the move to the workshop extension took place in 1977\u2014together with the three skilled workers employed at the time. <\/p>\n

In 1983, a development began away from pure tool-making toward a manufacturing operation\u2014the first CNC machine was acquired!<\/p>\n

Promoting young talent was already close to Holz’s heart back then\u2014just three years later, in 1986, the first apprentice Jens Traub made his training company very proud, as he completed his apprenticeship as the third-best in the state of Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg\u2014a significant achievement!<\/p>\n

Another strong signal followed shortly thereafter, in 1987: collaboration with the tuning specialist AMG was established. From that point on, Holz was responsible for machining engine blocks. <\/p>\n

After all the positive developments of the first 18 years, setbacks also had to be endured\u2014in 1988, a magnesium fire occurred in the workshop, which severely damaged not only the two new CNC machines at the time, but also large parts of the facility. However, through the quick, courageous action of everyone involved, the worst was prevented\u2014fortunately, no one was seriously injured and production downtime was also kept to a minimum. <\/p>\n

After Holz had recovered from this accident, the company continued to strive upward\u2014the new property in the Waldrems industrial area near Backnang was acquired and a new, modern, and spacious production hall was completed in just eight months. The company moved to the new location on May 1, 1991, and with this step also transformed into a GmbH! <\/p>\n

And in fact, the 1990s were a decade of success for Holz GmbH, as significant foundations for further development were laid during this period.<\/p>\n

Not only was the first major anniversary\u201425 years of Holz\u2014celebrated in 1995.<\/p>\n

In 1996, J\u00fcrgen Holz founded “Holz engineering”\u2014an independent design office; in 1998, the first complete special-purpose machine was delivered: a diffusion welding machine for starter armatures, and in 1999 Holz was able to start its first development project\u2014focused on “automatic feeding of flexible parts.”<\/p>\n

In the 2000s, HOLZ developed into a specialist for special-purpose machinery \u2013 HOLZ automation is born<\/p>\n

The good news followed in rapid succession during this decade: major orders from renowned customers such as Bosch (at international locations including Belgium, USA, Czech Republic), Porsche, and Daimler AG were received, HOLZ presented itself for the first time with its own trade fair presence, initial certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2000 followed, and shortly thereafter the upgrade to DIN EN ISO 9001:2008, …<\/p>\n

At this point, HOLZ had 36 employees\u2014and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2010!<\/p>\n

In 2014, we took another major step toward the future and repositioned ourselves\u2014we invested in a new location, outstanding employees, and a modern work environment and equipment. Because we do not just want to keep up, but to think ahead. <\/p>\n

Since then, our development has gained even more momentum\u2014today we can rightfully claim to be a sought-after specialist and full-service provider in the field of special-purpose machines and automation technology\u2014while remaining true to our values and convictions. Time and again we are reassured that we are on the right path\u2014because we are recipients of various awards and distinctions, which naturally make us and our team extremely proud! <\/p>\n

With this certainty, the 50th anniversary fills us with pride and gratitude. Because there are some without whom we would not be where we are today. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Our 75 employees are our greatest asset and our pride. All departments perform outstanding work day after day. Whether administration, technology, production or assembly, whether our people in procurement and logistics, our trainees, whether in sales or project management\u2014each and every individual makes an important contribution to the success of our company. Particularly noteworthy is the willingness to think beyond the boundaries of their respective departments, responsibilities, and subject areas. No one is stuck in their ways; everyone is always open to new ideas and unconventional approaches. We are proud to have so many competent people on our team\u2014and that is why we say THANK YOU! Thank you for loyalty, for collaboration, for commitment, and for the willingness to share our passion! <\/p>\n

Equally great thanks are due to our customers, who repeatedly place their trust in us and work together with us to initiate and implement successful projects. Our shared successes and the appreciative collaboration motivate us time and again! It is wonderful that our customers share our spirit and courageously think ahead together with us. We promise that we will continue to work tirelessly until a project is completed to the full satisfaction and enthusiasm of everyone involved! <\/p>\n<\/div>

When looking back, one should not forget to look forward as well. We know that we must continue to stay on the ball to remain strong in the future. To achieve this, we do everything in our power: we invest in the training and further education of our employees, we stay at the cutting edge of technology, and we continue to be unafraid of thinking outside the box. Resting on our laurels does not suit us \u2013 we will continue to work with motivation, enthusiasm, and a Swabian spirit, but with a difference. At HOLZ, we do not like standing still; we will continue to focus on progress and further development! With this in mind: here’s to the next 50 years of HOLZ automation! <\/p>\n
